Asset Request

  • Updated

    ~ minute read

When looking to exercise more control over the assets you're sharing, the Asset Request feature gives the ability to distribute watermarked and/or low-resolution content but forces the consumer/public user to place a request for the original file before downloading the file from a portal.

Requirement: You need to be signed in using an administrator's account in order to enable this setting.

How to enable the asset request function for a portal

  1. Enable the Asset Request setting either for all assets or on an asset-level when creating a new portal or when editing a previously created portal.
Note: Disable downloads or add a watermark to the assets within the portal to prevent direct downloading of the original files.
When you choose Enable Asset Level an asset request will be determined by the approval status of the individual asset (Settings  Custom Configuration  Approval).
Also, downloads and watermarks do not need to be enabled for this portal.
  2. Set the Content Download Options for approved asset requests.
  3. Click Save.

How to request assets as a consumer/public user

If the administrator has enabled the asset request for a portal, consumers/public users can not download assets directly, instead they must submit an asset request.
Note: Here you will find additional information on private and public portals.

Public portals or private portals that you have been added to

You either have a Canto account that has been granted access or the portal is set to public and thus can be accessed without logging in.

  1. Select assets from the portal link you were provided with.
  2. Click the Asset Request icon to request to download the selected assets.
  3. An Asset Request Form will be displayed.

Note: For private portals you must set up an Asset Collection. If you haven't created one yet you do so now. Select the Asset Collection and click Submit Request.
You can see your Asset Requests (for a private portal) in your folder structure.
  4. Fill out the request form with the necessary details. A user may select the top right corner to adjust their language preference.
  5. The Admin/Approvers will receive an email in order to review the issued request. As soon as the process is approved by the admin you will receive an email which will include a download link for the requested assets.

Private portals that you have not been added to

You either don't have a Canto account or have not been added to the access list.
Note: Access Request has to be set up by an administrator. Here you can learn how to set up self registration.

  1. Click on Access Request.
  2. Fill out the request form and click Submit.
  3. As soon as your request has been approved you will receive an e-mail. Open the link and set up your password.
  4. You can now log in and access the portal.
  5. Follow the steps above to issue an Asset Request.
