How to: Export Metadata

  • Updated

    ~ minute read

Being able to manage your metadata separately from your assets is an important aspect of digital asset manangement. Canto's metadata export function allows you to export your entire library or just selected folders and albums into an easy to manage .CSV file.

Whenever you perform a metadata export, you can continue working in Canto, while the file is generated for you. The processing time may change, depending on the size of your library, album or folder. Once complete, you will receive an email with a link to download the file.

Please note:

The actions described in this article require Administrator privileges, and are unavailable on Consumer and Contributor profiles.

Export your entire library

Click your profile icon – by default this will be the Default profile iconsymbol – to open the "Profile & Settings" menu, then select "Settings".

The right side of the Main Library - several elements are highlighted.

On the Settings page, select the "Links & Connections" tab, followed by "Metadata Export" from the menu on the left.

Enter a name for your .CSV file and click "Export As CSV" on the right.

Export an album or folder

Select the album or folder in the Folder Tree, then click the Detail Page button at the bottom of the page.

Click the Metadata Export button, then enter a name for your .CSV file and click "Apply".

Product Hub Friendly Export

The Product Hub Friendly Exports are limited metadata exports, intended to make it easier for you to link your existing assets to the Products in your Product Hub.

Select the album or folder in the Folder Tree, then click the Detail Page button at the bottom of the page.

On the detail page, click the button.

Enter a name for the .CSV file and select the custom field that contains the Product SKU from the drop-down-menu. Finally, click "Apply".

Please note:

The SKU field may contain multiple SKUs, separated by a comma. For a successful import, the SKU field must contain at least one SKU of a Product in your Product Hub.

Once the Product Hub-Friendly Export file has been generated, you can import it into the Product Hub using the steps in the article "How to: Add assets to a Product".
