Once the download has finished, run the file. After installation has completed, Canto Connect will automatically launch and prompt you to connect to an account.

Please note:

The most recent version of Canto Connect no longer requires Java. If you are upgrading from from Canto Connect (Legacy) to the updated version, you may safely uninstall any previously installed Java runtime environment from your system, as it will not affect the functionality of Canto Connect.

Connect to your library

Canto Connect must be linked to a tenant and user account in order to function.

Please note:

Uploading assets requires a user role with the Upload Content privilege, which is available only to Administrators, Contributors, and custom roles. Guests and users with the Consumer role will be unable to use Canto Connect to its full capacity.

First-time setup

Enter the URL of your Canto tenant into the "Canto URL" field and click "Next".

Enter your username and password, and click the "Login" button, or click the corresponding button to open the login prompt for your tenant's respective Single Sign-On (SSO) provider.

If your tenant exclusively uses Single Sign-On, this step will be skipped. Instead, you will be forwarded to the provider's login prompt as soon as you have entered your tenant's URL into the "Canto URL" field and clicked "Next".

Please note:

Unless the current user is logged out, Canto Connect will automatically reconnect to the same account and tenant the next time it launches. This also applies if Canto Connect has been uninstalled and reinstalled.

Upload to your library

Canto Connect allows you to upload as many assets as you choose – also referred to as bulk upload – by utilizing an upload queue. This feature enables you to mix and match assets for upload, regardless of whether they originate from a single location on your computer or share the same destination on the tenant. Each individual file, collection of files, or folder you select for upload will be added to the upload queue as a new item.

Please note:

Canto Connect does not currently support duplicate checks. If the same asset is uploaded twice, an identical copy will be created in the tenant. Folders with the same name uploaded to the same destination will have their names amended with a number in parentheses.

Add items using drag-and-drop

Canto Connect supports drag-and-drop as a method to add items to the upload queue on both Windows and macOS.

Open Canto Connect and ensure that you are logged into your account, then use your system's file manager application – File Explorer on Windows, or Finder on macOS – to navigate to the location of your target file or folder.

A Windows desktop - a File Explorer window and Canto Connect are visible.

Select your chosen file or folder and – while keeping the mouse button pressed – drag it onto the Canto Connect window. Once the "Copy" indicator appears next to your cursor, release the mouse button. This will open the "Select Destination Album" overlay if you are uploading files, or the "Select Destination Folder" if you are uploading a folder.

Please note:

While drag-and-drop allows you to add multiple files or multiple folders at once, it is not possible to add a mix of individual files and folders at the same time.

If you receive the following message in Canto Connect, review your current selection to ensure that it contains either only files or only folders, before re-attempting the upload.

Add items using the Canto Connect menu options

If this is the first item being added to the upload queue, click the "Upload files" or "Upload folder" button. If there are already items in the queue, the "Add file" or "Add folder" button will be available instead.

A combined view of two possible looks of the Canto Connect upload page - the "Add File" and "Upload Files" buttons are highlighted.

Use the pop-up to find the target file or folder. While you may select as many files as you like, only one folder at a time can be selected when using this method. Once you are satisfied with your selection, click "Open" or "Select Folder" in the bottom right of the window. This will open the "Select Destination Album" overlay if you are uploading files, or the "Select Destination Folder" if you are uploading a folder.

Select a destination

The "Select Destination Album" and "Select Destination Folder" overlays show a representation of your Main Library. Use the Arrow pointing to the right-symbol to expand folders and navigate to the location where you wish to upload your content.

To select an upload destination, click either the name of an album – when uploading individual files – or the name of a folder – when uploading folders. You can identify the currently selected destination by the Selected-symbol the its left.

You may also select the "Library" directly, which will add individual files to the "Unassigned" folder, and insert folders at the highest level of your Main Library's folder structure.

The Canto Connect upload page - the "Select Destination Album" overlay is visible, and the "Select" button is highlighted.

Upload assets

Once you have selected content to upload, Canto Connect will display the "Selected for Upload" section, which shows your current upload queue.

Items in this section display the selected asset's name, file size, and destination. Folders will also indicate the number of files they contain, and if multiple assets have been selected for individual file upload, the name of the asset will be replaced with the number of selected assets.

The Canto Connect upload page - the "Selected for Upload" section is visible, and two items are highlighted.

Click the "Upload" button in the top right to initiate the upload and move all currently queued items to the "Active Uploads" section.

Items in the "Active Uploads" will go through different stages.

Assets marked as "Queued for Upload" are currently pending and will be uploaded as soon as all preliminary processing and ongoing uploads have been completed.

Assets that are currently being uploaded will display a progress bar and completion percentage . If the queued upload contains multiple assets, the number of successfully uploaded assets and the number of remaining assets will also be shown.

Assets with the status "Processing Upload" have completed the data transfer, and Canto Connect is verifying their integrity.

The Canto Connect upload page - the "Active Uploads" section is visible, and an item is shown in various stages of the upload process.

Once an item has been successfully uploaded, it will be moved to the "Complete Uploads" section and marked as "Upload Successful".

The Canto Connect upload page - the "Complete Uploads" section is visible, and the "Upload Successful" identifier is highlighted.

Please note:

Canto Connect processes uploads 10 files at a time.

If the upload queue consists of a folder containing 50 files and 2 individual assets – added in that order – Canto Connect will start the upload with the first 10 files contained in the folder. It will then move on to the next 10 files in the folder, until the folder has been fully processed. Only after the folder has been uploaded completely, will Canto Connect move on to the remaining individual assets.

If you require a specific asset to be uploaded before another asset has finished processing, you can pause the ongoing upload via the context menu, prompting Canto Connect to move to the next item in queue.

Manage your uploads

Each item on the upload page has a context menu, which can be opened by clicking the Context Menu-symbol on the right. Depending on the section in which the item is currently located, the context menu will present different options.

Selected for Upload

The "Selected for Upload" section contains items for which the upload has not yet been initiated. Clicking the "Upload" button will start the upload for all items in this section.

Please note:

Canto Connect allows for additional items to be selected for upload, even while other uploads are already in progress. If the upload is initiated for additional items, they will be added to the end of the current upload process and will remain labeled as "Queued for Upload" until all other uploads have been completed.

The context menu of items in this section will have the following options.

  • "Open in Canto" will open the asset's selected destination in your default browser.
  • "Cancel" will remove the asset from the upload queue.
  • "Change destination" allows you to select a new target folder or album for the queued assets.
The Canto Connect upload page - the "Selected for Upload" section is visible, and the item context menu is highlighted.

Active Uploads

The "Active Uploads" section contains items that are currently being uploaded. The context menu of items in this section will have the following options.

  • "Open in Canto" will open the asset's selected destination in your default browser.
  • "Pause" will temporarily stop the upload of the asset. This will cause Canto Connect to move on to the next available item in the queue.
  • "Cancel" will remove the asset from the upload queue.
alt

When an item has been paused, the "Pause" option in the context menu changes to "Resume". Selecting this option will continue the upload process.

The Canto Connect upload page - the ""Active Uploads" section is visible, and the option "Resume" in the context menu is highlighted.

Please note:

To maintain the original structure of an uploaded folder, Canto Connect will first create a new folder at the target destination of the Main Library and then place any subfolders inside that new folder. Any files inside the uploaded folder or any of its subfolders will be placed in albums with the same name as their parent folder.

This does not happen all at once, but is performed as necessary during the upload process. If an ongoing upload is canceled, already created content in the tenant's library is not automatically deleted and must instead be manually removed.

Complete Uploads

Items in this section serve as a record of past activity, allowing you to easily track which assets have been uploaded or cancelled. The context menu of items in this section will have the following options.

  • "Open in Canto" will open the asset's selected destination in your default browser.
  • "Remove from list" will remove the item from the upload queue.
The Canto Connect upload page - the "Complete Uploads" section is visible, and the item context menu is highlighted.

Additional Features

Aside from the upload and account pages, Canto Connect offers two additional features.

Clicking the Canto Logo in the top left will open the Main Library of the currently linked tenant.

Selecting the Help page provides a link that will open the Canto Help Center to the Canto Connect section.

The Canto Connect "Help" page - the Canto logo and "Help" tab are highlighted.
