How to: Manage album and folder names

  • Updated

    ~ minute read

The names of your albums and folders are important factors in both keeping your assets organized and easily accessible for your team. Whether you are creating a new album or folder, adding translations, or renaming existing ones, you should always follow best practices for organizing your library. Please see the article "Best Practices: Folder-Album Structure" for more detailed tips.

Update individual items

First, select the album or folder you want to rename in the folder tree. Next, click the Manage Album Name button at the bottom of the folder tree.

Alternatively, after selecting the folder or album, click the View detail information button at the bottom of the folder tree to open the folder or album's detail page, then click the Add Album/Folder Name Translation icon below the album or folder's thumbnail.

A split view, the left shows the Main Library, the right shows the detail page of an album - several elements are highlighted.

The "Manage Album/Folder Name" overlay shows a list of names, starting with the default name – identifiable by the missing language entry – followed by any available translations, each one showing the language it corresponds to.

Please note:

The album and folder names in the library are based on the viewer's system language. If the user's chosen language does not have a matching translation, the default name will be displayed instead.

Newly created albums or folders always include a translation, as Canto automatically adds the name chosen during their creation as both the default and translated version, based on the system language of the user who created to album or folder.

The Main Library, the "Manage Album/Folder Name" overlay is visible - the list of assigned names is highlighted.

You can now take the following actions.

Change a name

To change a name, click the Edit icon on the right. You can now enter the new name in the text field, and change the assigned language using the drop-down-menu in the language column. Click the Confirm button to confirm the new name.

Add a translation

To add a new translation, enter the new name in the text field above the list of names, then select the matching language from the drop-down-menu to the right. Click the "Add" button to insert the new name in the list.

Delete a translation

Find the name you want to delete in the list, then click the Delete icon to the right. The default name cannot be deleted.

Once you are satisfied with your changes, click "Save" to close the overlay.
