Restriction: You need to be signed in using an administrator's account in order to create a new style guide.

Canto supports the creation and management of Style Guides. Create public or private style guides to showcase your brand’s colors, typography, imagery and copy – part of your corporate identity.

You do not have to create the entire Style Guide in one go. You will have the option to save drafts - having only provided the required basic information (name, description and URL) by clicking on Finish.

You can come back at any given time to complete the process by clicking on the corresponding edit-icon.

Note: Once you clicked Finish the Style Guide is created, even if you click on Cancel in the next window.

How to create a new Style Guide

Note: Files must be set to Approved (Status) to be visible in a Style Guide. Files with other status as pending or custom status do not appear in the Style Guide.

  1. Click on New Style Guide.

  2. You have to fill in the required fields (name, description, URL) before you can access any further settings. Click Finish.
The page New Style Guide gets displayed. Here you will find seven tabs.
  3. The Info tab will allow you to customize features such as the access type and layout settings for your style guide. Scroll down to add detailed information and set preferences such as download options, if the style guide should be set to private or public, etc.

When your Style Guide is set to Public the last two tabs (User Access and Group Access) won't be displayed.

  4. On the Content tab, specify which folders and albums from the main library you want to add to your style guide.
Note: Make sure to check Allow Users to View Restricted Folders & Albums if you want to share restricted content.

  5. The Custom Configuration tab is divided into four sections where you can adjust the display/layout to your liking.
Here you can find information on custom fields and custom configuration for your main library (the same principles apply when setting up the layout).

  6. The Style Setup tab is where you can add content to your style guide. The default sections can be adjusted using the highlighted buttons. New sections can be created using the Add button at the bottom of the page. You can readjust the order by using the arrows or delete a section by clicking the recycling bin.

Here you can find the ideal dimensions for different sized boxes.

  7. The Custom Branding tab allows you to edit the background, logo, and colors of your style guide page.
Further information can be found here on how to customize the branding for the main library (the same principles apply when adjusting your Style Guide's branding).
Note: The Login Screen can only be adjusted when the the Style Guide is set to private (see info tab).

  8. The User Access and Group Access tabs allow you to choose which users and groups have access to your Canto style guide.

This only applies to private portals (see info tab).

Select the Add button in the top right corner of the page. Select the arrow next to the user(s) or group(s) you want to give access to, and then select OK.

If you do not have any groups set up, here you can learn how to create one.
  9. When you are finished creating your style guide, select the Save button and your style guide will be created. Note: This button is always visible, but is greyed out until you made changes to your Style Guide.

How to add folders/albums or files to your Style Guide

  1. Within your Style Guide navigate to Style Setup.
  2. Click on any item under an Imagery section in order to assign its content.

  3. You can choose between Folder/Album and File.

  4. Confirm your choice with Select.
  5. Select the content you want to be displayed and click OK.
    • PDF files will be displayed as a preview and if clicked on in portal will be opened in a new tab.
    • Images can be cropped and get displayed as a preview. Set up an URL to which the image should direct when clicked.
    • Video files can be trimmed and you can choose if it should direct to an URL or if a preview should be shown.
Note: Video files will auto-play when a mouse cursor is hovering over the thumbnail. Audio is supported in the preview.
  6. Repeat the process for all your items.

Style Setup

For a quick adjustment of any HEX colors you can click on any of the RGB or CMYK values to change them individually.

The label item will be replaced with the Folder/Album Description and not the Title. You can recreate this caption or replace it.

You can add OpenType fonts (OTF) and TrueType fonts (TTF) to your Style Guides.

When adding fonts to your Style Guide you have to make sure that they are in a separate album with the name of the font. Add this/these album(s) in the Content tab to your Style Guide.

You will be able to add all your OTF and TTF that you added to the Style Guide under Typography.

  1. Style Setup Typography
    Click Add Type.
  2. Select your desired font from the album list.

  3. Click Ok.
