Canto for InDesign

Please note:

Canto for InDesign is a standalone plugin for Adobe InDesign that can be used in parallel with the Canto Connector for Adobe.

Canto for InDesign is built on Adobe's modern UXP plugin framework, giving InDesign users a first-class Canto experience consistent with the existing Canto for Photoshop connector. It provides improved performance, compatibility with current Adobe hardware and OS platforms, and tighter integration with InDesign workflows — including auto-detection of the active document and a dedicated "Upload as New Version" flow.

Is Canto for InDesign right for me?

Canto for InDesign is a new dedicated connector separate from the existing Canto Connector for Adobe, which will continue to support InDesign for the foreseeable future. There is no forced migration — both connectors can run in parallel.

On a macOS operating system, Canto for InDesign is recommended for users who primarily work within Adobe InDesign. It delivers better performance and compatibility with Apple's latest hardware compared to the existing Canto Connector for Adobe.

If you predominantly use other Adobe Creative Cloud apps — such as Illustrator — or if you are satisfied with the current performance of the Canto Connector for Adobe, you may choose not to install it.

Should you choose to install Canto for InDesign alongside the Canto Connector for Adobe, both plugins can run in parallel. You will find Canto for InDesign under the "Plug-in" menu, while the Canto Connector for Adobe will remain available under the "Extensions" menu.

On a Microsoft Windows operating system, Canto for InDesign offers a dedicated InDesign experience built on Adobe UXP, which may be preferable if you work primarily within InDesign and do not need to connect other Adobe Creative Cloud apps — such as Illustrator — to your Canto library.

If you need to connect multiple Adobe apps to Canto, the existing Canto Connector for Adobe remains the recommended choice on Windows.

If you install both plugins, you will be able to find Canto for InDesign in the "Plug-in" menu, while the Canto Connector for Adobe will be available under the "Extensions" menu.
