Canto for Photoshop is standalone plugin for Adobe Photoshop that can be used in parallel with the Canto Connector for Adobe.
Canto for Photoshop is designed to improve the compatibility of the existing Canto Connector on Apple's latest hardware, providing an overall better performance and improved integration with Adobe Photoshop's generative AI tools and new plugin framework.
Is Canto for Photoshop right for me?
Whether Canto for Photoshop is the right tool for you depends on your computer's operating system.
On a macOS operating system, Canto for Photoshop can be a great improvement for your workflow inside of Adobe Photoshop, and it is recommended to add it to your system.
However, if you predominantly use other Adobe Creative Cloud apps – such as Illustrator or Premiere – or if you are satisfied with the current performance of the Canto Connector for Adobe you may choose not to install it.
Should you choose to install Canto for Photoshop alongside the Canto Connector for Adobe, you will not have to switch between two different plugins. Instead, the current Connector will automatically use the improved functionality of Canto for Photoshop to provide you a seamless experience.
On a Microsoft Windows operating system, Canto for Photoshop will offer no noticable difference over the current Canto Connector for Adobe.
However, you may still choose to install this plugin as an alternative, if you predominantly work within Photoshop and do not need to connect other Adobe Creative Cloud apps – such as Illustrator or Premiere – to your Canto library.
If you install both plugins, you will be able to find Canto for Photoshop in the "Plug-in" menu, while the Canto Connector for Adobe will be available under the "Extensions" menu.

How to use Canto for Photoshop
In Photoshop, navigate to Plug-Ins > Canto for Photoshop > Canto for Photoshop.
Canto for Photoshop functions similarly to the current Canto Connector for Adobe plugin with a significantly improved file upload experience for Photoshop users: it eliminates the need to save files locally and manually select files, and introduces a streamlined new-version upload flow. Upload to Canto
When you're ready to upload your Photoshop file to Canto, select the "Upload" tab in the Canto for Photoshop plugin. Canto for Photoshop automatically detects your currently active document, so no manual file selection is needed.
Upload as a New Version
Use this option to replace an existing asset in your Canto library with an updated version.
- Select the "New Version" option.
- Click "Select as..." then locate and click the existing asset in your library.
- Click "Select Asset" to confirm your selection.
- Click "Upload."
Upload as a New File
Use this option to add your file to Canto as a brand-new asset.
- Select the "New File" option.
- Click "Upload..." and choose the album you'd like to upload the file to.
- Click "Upload."
