Products are the individual items that populate your Product Hub. Each Product is made up of a Name, SKU, and unique attributes that are custom-created for each client. Attributes can then be added to Groups and assigned to different Types. Products can be added to Catalogs, Channels, or exported directly from the system.

Create a new Product
Individually
From the Product Hub, click on "Products" in the top right corner, then select "All Products".
Click "Add Product" on the right.
You must enter a name and an SKU number. While the SKU is not marked as required, it is important for future actions and should be added as soon as possible. All SKUs should be unique identifiers.
|
Please note: Product names do not need to be unique, but too many identical names can cause confusion. If a Product has different versions, consider making a Variant instead of creating a new Product. The most common variant is size. If you have questions about choosing variants, please consult with your Implementation or Customer Success manager. |
Finally, click "Add Product". This will save your new Product, and automatically open its Product page, where you can make further changes, such as adjusting the Type, Category, or Channels. For more information on these options, please see the section "Manage existing Products" in this article.
In bulk
The majority of products in the Product Hub are created through data imports. To learn more about this feature, please visit the article "How to: Import Product data".
If you have created a product manually and need to add more information, you can also use the import process to add further attributes. This process uses the unique identifier that you assigned to the product upon creation.
|
Please note: The Import function can only assign existing Attributes to the imported data; you will not be able to create new Attributes. Please make sure that all necessary data has a matching Attribute in Canto PIM before you begin the Import process. |
The Product Detail Page – An Overview
Each Product has a dedicated page where you can review and edit the Product's information and settings. This page contains an Overview, Data, Assets, Channels, and Settings page.
Overview
When you arrive on a Product Detail page, the first place that you land is the Overview page. This gives you all product assets and information on one screen. On the left side, you will have the assets, including all related assets in the Product Assets, and any Image Attributes that are below.
On the right side, you will see all product data. At the top, you will have the General section, which appears on all products, and below you will have Produce Type Details, which are the attributes specifically set for this product Type. In Product Type Details, you will also have the option to toggle the View. The View determines what information you will see about a Product.
On this page, you will also have the Variants listed above the images on the left-hand side. This will allow you to toggle into each product variant if created, and view specific images and product information related to that variant. To learn more about Variants, please visit the article "How to: Manage Product Variants".
If you hit "Edit" on this page, you will be taken to the next Data tab.
Data
The data tab is where you have the option to edit the unique product information. You can edit the Parent Product Information and the Variant information.
On the Parent Product Data page, you will see the General Information on the left, as well as all of the available variants selectable in the drop-down. On the right, you will see all Product Type Details.
On the Variants page, you will see the variant-specific General information on the left, and the Variant product type details on the right.
Assets
The assets tab is where you can edit all assets related to the product. On the left, you will see Product Assets, where all assets related to a product are held. Think of it as a holding bank for any asset relevant to the product. On the right, you will see all image attributes related to a product. Image attributes are custom fields where you can store assets for specific retailers or specific types of shots (lifestyle, PDP, etc.)
When you hit the Edit button on the assets page, you will be able to drag assets from Product Assets to Image Attributes. You can also open and close the different Image Attribute boxes for easier navigation. Note that the right side of the screen will scroll while the left remains fixed, making for much easier drag and drop to the correct image attribute.
You can directly add assets to either Product Assets or Image Attribute by clicking the "Add Asset" button in each area. This will take you to a DAM search.
To learn more about managing assets, visit "How to: Add assets to a Product."
Channels
The "Channels" tab lists all Channels to which the Product is assigned in separate sections. If any Attributes required by a Channel are missing, the tab will be marked with the -symbol, and the Attribute will appear in the respective section. Additionally, the
-symbol will appear at the top of the page, indicating the overall number of missing Attributes.
To add missing channel data, click the "Edit" button, and the fields with missing data will appear. You can fill them in manually or import the data in bulk.
To learn more about Channels, please visit the article "How to: Manage Channels".
Settings
The "Settings" tab has three different sections. The first, "Product Settings," Lists the Product Type and Product Category.
The second area is "Variant Settings." There, you can set each option for Primary, Secondary, or Tertiary variants. The majority of variant work, however, is done through product imports, so there is usually not much need to make edits here.
The third section shows the Product Metadata. This portion documents when the product was first created, last updated, and who the creator is.
You can edit Product Settings and Product Variants by hitting the edit button on the upper right side. You are not able to edit the Product Metadata.
