MDC's scalability shines through its integration with Canto, allowing you to publish images worldwide and easily modify them on the fly using different parameters in the URL. (see Creating MDC URLs for embedding images). Plus, with servers strategically located worldwide, you can reach your audience wherever they are without any cross-site forwarding issues making it a breeze to publish across your sites, stores, and platforms.
How does it work
The MDC feature simplifies how images are handled in Canto. Instead of having to manually edit and adjust images for different uses, MDC automatically creates multiple sizes and versions of your images on demand.
When you upload an image asset to Canto, MDC generates a high-quality "master image" from your original file. The master image acts as the source for all the different renditions of that image. By default, the master image is 2050 pixels wide, but you can configure a different size when setting up MDC.
Once the master image is created, you can instantly get different renditions of that image just by changing the URL. You don't need to log in to Canto or make any manual changes. MDC automatically resizes, crops, or adjusts your image based on the URL.
For your convenience, there is also an MDC Embed Tool that lets you generate MDC URLs in a user-friendly user interface without any technical knowledge required. The MDC supports all assets that are within Canto.
*Please note that transformations can only be applied to images.
Requirements for Canto MDC setups
The following aspects are required before using Canto MDC:
-
Decide on the size of the master image. Note: The larger the master image size, the longer it takes to generate. To increase speed and performance, try to keep the master image size as small as possible.
-
You have to decide which asset within your Canto account should be used as a fallback image. Canto needs the content ID when configuring the fallback image in AWS.
Requirements for Canto MDC setups when using your own AWS account ("BYO")
Note: This is only needed if you are using a separate AWS account with MDC.
The following aspects are required before using Canto MDC with your own AWS account:
- You need to own an Amazon Web Services (AWS) account.
-
For the one-time setup of MDC, Canto needs temporary access to your AWS account. This can be done in two ways:
a) Either you provide Canto with the login credentials of your AWS root user
b) Or you set up an online meeting where we guide you – using his AWS root user – through the setup process.
-
You need to create an API Key in Canto’s backend with the option Support Client Credentials Mode enabled.
Furthermore, Canto needs the App ID as the APP Secret from that API key. Alternatively, Canto can take over this task if we have admin access to your Canto account.
