A Type consists of one or more Groups, and each Group can be assigned to several Types. When a Type is connected to a Product, the Attributes from each Group it includes are incorporated into the Product's page.
Please note: The actions described in this article require Administrator privileges, and are unavailable on Consumer and Contributor profiles. |
Create a new Type
Click on "Admin" in the top right corner, then select "Product Info".
On the Product Info page, select the "Types" tab. You will see a list of all current Types, the Groups they contain, and how many Products use the Type. To create a new Type, click on "Add Type" in the top right.
Give the new Type a name ①. This name must be unique, and cannot already be in use.
You may add one or more Groups, by selecting the checkbox ② next to their name. Use the "Filter Attributes" field ③ to only show Groups that contain Attributes matching a specific word or phrase.
Once you are satisfied with your choices, click "Add Type".
You will be forwarded to the Type's page, where you can make further changes, as described in the section "Manage existing Types"
Manage existing Types
Please note: Types can be edited or deleted even if in use, which may alter or remove associated Product Details from affected Products. Deleted Types are not sent to the Trash, and cannot be recovered. |
In order to manage a Type, open the Product Info page, and select the "Types" tab. Next, click on the Type you want to update to open its detail page.
Here you can find additional information about the Type.
The top of the page ④ displays the Type's name, creation and update dates, the number of associated Products, and the count and percentage of unassigned required Attributes.
Below these details are the Groups ⑤ assigned to the Type. You may notice that each Type is automatically assigned the "General" Group ⑥. This ensures that the Attributes assigned to the "General" Group are visible on every Product, regardless of the Type it is associated with.
Each Group listed here shows its individual Attributes ⑦, along with their visibility and whether they are required.
Edit a Type
To update a Type, open its detail page and click the "Edit" button in the top right corner.
You can now rename the Type by entering a new name in the "Name" field.
Additionally, you can make the following changes.
Add Groups
Click the "Add Groups" button in the top right of the "Groups" section.
You may add one or more Groups, by selecting the checkbox next to their name. Use the "Filter Attributes" field to only show Groups that contain Attributes matching a specific word or phrase.
Once you are satisfied with your choices, click "Add Groups".
Remove a Group
Find the Group you want to remove in the "Groups" section, then click the -icon in its top right corner.
Please note: There is no confirmation dialog when removing a Group from a Type. If you accidentally remove one or more Groups, click "Cancel" to undo all changes, or re-add the Groups if your changes have already been saved. |
Change Attribute behavior
The "Groups" section lists all Groups assigned to the Type, showing their Attributes along with two columns: "Show" ⑧ and "Required" ⑨, each with checkboxes for the Attributes.
-
Show
If the box in this column is checked, the respective Attribute will be visible on a Product associated with this Type, otherwise it will be hidden. Please note:
If all Attributes of a Group have their "Show" checkbox unchecked, the entire group will be removed from the Type upon saving.
-
Required
If the box in this column is checked, the Attribute must contain data. While a Product can be saved without data in a required Attribute, there will be a notification on the Product that data is missing. Checking the "Required" box will not automatically check the Attribute's "Show" box.
Once you have made all the desired updates to the Type, click "Save".
Copy a Type
Instead of creating a new Type step by step Type, you can copy an existing one. This copy will have the same Groups assigned as the Original, removing the need to add them manually.
First open the Type's detail or edit page, then click the -icon next to the "Edit"-button, and select "Make a Copy".
This will create a new Type named "Duplicate of [Name of the original Type]", and open its edit page. You may now change the name and Group settings as described under "Edit a Type".
Click "Save" to submit any changes.
Delete a Type
Open the Type's detail or edit page, then click the -icon next to the "Edit"-button, and select "Delete".
Click "OK" on the confirmation dialog to delete the Type.
