How to: Manage Canto PIM user privileges

To streamline the management of usage privileges, Canto PIM makes use of the user roles that you have already established in your tenant. However, as many of its features require their own set of permissions, which are managed independently and directly through Canto PIM.

Please note:

The actions described in this article require Administrator privileges, and are unavailable on Consumer and Contributor profiles.


Enable access to Canto PIM

While your tenant's roles – including custom roles – are all available in Canto PIM, they do not automatically have access permissions.

To grant a user role access to Canto PIM, follow the steps described in the article "How to: Manage user roles - Customize a user role". Find the new privilege "Access PIM" in the category "Advanced Privileges", and check the box next to it. Once you click "Save" in the top right corner, all users with the respective role will have access to Canto PIM.

Click on "Admin" in the top right corner, then select "Privileges".

Use the tabs at the top of the page to select a user role, then click "Edit".

To grant a privilege, check the box next to it. Remove the check to revoke the privilege again. Click "Save" to apply your changes to the role.

It can be difficult to decide what options are best suited for your specific workflow. To assist in this process, the following list provides the name of each privilege as listed on "Privileges" section of Canto PIM, and a brief explanation of their function.

Create Products and Variants

Enables users to create new Products and Variants in the Product Hub.

Edit Products and Variants

Enables users to edit Attributes of existing Products and Variants.

For more details, please see the article "How to: Manage Products - Manage existing Products".

Delete Products and Variants

Enables users to delete Products and Variants in the Product Hub.

For more details, please see the articles "How to: Manage Products - Manage existing Products" and "How to: Manage Product Variants".

Please note:

This does not grant the ability to restore deleted Products, which is a privilege reserved for the Administrator role.

Export Products

Enables users user to export Product Attribute data from the Product Hub.

Assign Products to Categories

Enables users to assign Products to a category.

For more details, please see the article "How to: Manage Products - Manage existing Products".

Manage Channel Products

Enables users to add Products to new and existing Channels.

For more details, please see the article "How to: Manage Channels".

Manage Product Assets

Enables users to assign, edit, and remove associations between assets in the Main Library and a Product.

For more details, please see the article "How to: Manage Products - Manage Product assets".

Download Product Assets

Enables users to download assets associated with a Product from the Product page.

Create Catalogs

Enables users to create new Catalogs.

For more details, please see the article "How to: Manage Catalogs - Create a new Catalog".

Edit Catalog Settings

Enables users to edit existing Catalogs.

For more details, please see the article "How to: Manage Catalogs - Edit an existing Catalog".

Manage Catalog Products

Enables users to add and remove Products from Catalogs.

For more details, please see the article "How to: Manage Catalogs - Edit an existing Catalog".

Delete Catalogs

Enables users to delete Catalogs.

Please note:

This does not grant the ability to restore deleted Catalogs, which is a privilege reserved for the Administrator role.

View Products

Enables users to access the "All Products", "Channels", and "Types" sections in the Product Hub.

View Catalogs

Enables users to access the "Catalogs" section in the Product Hub.

Share Products

Enables users to create Share Links for individual Products.

Share Catalogs

Enables users to create Share Links for entire Catalogs.

For more details, please see the article "How to: Manage Catalogs - Share a Catalog".

Manage Product Info

Enables users to access the "Product Info" page in the Admin menu.

Manage Channel Settings

Enables users to access the "Channels" page in the Admin menu.

Perform Imports

Enables users to access the "Import" page in the Admin menu.

Manage Product Categories

Enables access to the Categories' context menu, as well as the "Add Categories" button in the Product Hub
